A non-partisan coalition dedicated to protecting Charlotte from mass surveillance through education, political action, and peaceful demonstration.

The fight against mass surveillance technologies from Flock and Axon in Charlotte continues! Thank you to everyone who showed up to protest and speak out on September 29! Unfortunately, neither CMPD nor the City Council have expressed interest in having a meaningful public discussion about this critical issue, so it’s up to us to continue to put pressure on them.

Our next chance to do this is:

🏢 Public Forum at Charlotte City Council Meeting

📅 When: Monday, October 26 at 5:30PM

📍 Where:
Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center
600 E. Fourth Street
Charlotte, NC 28202

What you can do:

  1. Call or email your city council members and tell them you want them to stop CMPDs purchase of new ALPRs and have a public discussion on surveillance tech.
  2. Speak at the October 26 public forum:
    1. Sign up using this online form.
    2. Please read the info below. We have a unique situation here in Charlotte when it comes to surveillance tech and it’s worth taking a few minutes to be informed.
    3. Prepare what you’ll say. You’ll have 2 minutes to speak.
    4. Show up, wait to be called, make your voice heard!

NOTE: Depending on when you sign up, you may be put on a wait list. If you’re unable or don’t want to speak, you can still show up and bring a small sign (cannot be larger than about 2x3ft).

What the Anti-Surveillance Coalition of Charlotte Stands for:

1. We oppose mass surveillance of any kind in Charlotte.

2. We support effective and just law enforcement

3. We want to have as safe a community as possible while ALSO having our constitutional rights protected and respected.

4. We believe constant, warrantless surveillance of all Americans is NOT necessary to have effective law enforcement.

5. We demand open, public discussion and community input to be taken into account BEFORE decisions are made about implementation of surveillance and law enforcement technologies.

6. We do not condone violence or vandalism of ANY KIND in the pursuit of our goals. We firmly believe in peaceful, non-violent political action and activism.
